Tour Plan
In the morning you leave at the agreed time from Centrum Paramaribo. We drive to Atjoni in about 3.5 hours and step into a canoe for a 2 hour boating. Eco Resort Pasensi is a small resort located in the traditional Maroon village of Pikin Slee. Here you can stay in the nature of the immense tropical rain forest and enjoy peace and tranquility, village walk to experience the authentic culture, walks through the woods, swimming, and a visit to the Saamaka Marron museum. Pikinslee is known for the authentic village character and the local population (about 3000) values culture and history.
After breakfast you will drive to Tioboto in about 1-1 ½ hours. After arrival, the resort can be explored and you can cool off in the river. In the afternoon you take a walk to the farmland, where various crops are cultivated in particular earth fruits. The local Saamaka women will teach you how to mash peanut in a pestle (matapi). After dinner and cozy chat / games at the table, in the evening hours, with a bit of luck, you can spot caimans on the river. You sleep in one of the wooden lodges with mosquito nets.
After breakfast you sail by boat to Djumu. Under the guidance of a (local) guide you walk through the village and undertake an extensive forest walk. You will receive information about the flora and fauna around you. You can take a hike to the Pineapple Mountains in about two hours walk through the jungle. On the 219 meter high mountain the wild pineapples (only in the season to see) still grow. After the intensive walk you will make a boat trip to the Tapawatra rapids, at the confluence of the Gran and Piking Rio. Afterwards you will be treated to a tropical fruit picnic.
After breakfast, you can relax at the resort. By canoe we leave for the village of Semoisi or Massiah where you get a village visit. Depending on the activities on that day in the village you get a good picture of the lifestyle, customs and traditions.
In the afternoon you can swim in the river and visit an agricultural plot.
In the evening we’ll have a cultural dance with women from the village!
In the morning you leave half past six in the morning for the coffee tour. In the boat you already drink coffee/tea and hear/see how early the locals already start their activities along the river.
