Today, we embark on our nature and culture adventure, departing from Paramaribo in a southern direction. Along the way, we’ll pass villages situated on this route and the beuatiful tropial rainforest. After about 190 km, we’ll reach Atjoni, the place where the bus road ends and the travel by boat starts. We will begin an exciting journey on a motorized dug out canoe. The boat ride takes approximately 60 to 75 minutes, leading us to the comfortable Anaula Nature Resort. After arriving and checking in your cabin you can enjoy a delicious buffet lunch in the dining hall.

In the afternoon, we’ll take a boat ride to a nearby swimming spot in the Ferullasi rapids, where you can relax, swim, and enjoy a natural bubble bath.
Before dinner, we’ll embark on an exciting adventure to search for caimans. During this nighttime boat trip, you can also enjoy the beautiful starry sky and experience the total silence of the Amazon rainforest.

After breakfast, we’ll take a boat ride to the village of Nieuw Aurora for a village walk. During the guided tour through the village, you’ll get to know the local culture and lifestyle of the Maroons. We’ll visit the mission post, which includes a church, a primary school, and a medical post.
Around 4:30 PM, we’ll take a forest walk on the island where the resort is located. During this walk, you’ll learn more about the local medicinal use of plants. The remains of the jungle commando’s “immortality rituals” from the interior war in 1986, led by Ronnie Brunswijk, are reminders of this unique piece of history.
In the evening, you can enjoy a delicious dinner and a free night to spend in the lobby with cozy Cleopatra benches, for example.

On Sunday, you have the opportunity to attend a church service in the village. You will witness a typical Saramaccan service. The afternoon is free for you to enjoy. Hammock camps are available for your convenience. A walk on the island is recommended, where you can peacefully listen to the sounds of the beautiful wildlife in the surrounding or relax on a plateau above the water. Reading a book by our beautiful pool under the gazebo could be a great idea.
After dinner, we can enjoy a cultural dance performance. Traditional dances such as Seketi, Awasa, and Bandamba will be performed for us, with our guide providing explanations about the content and meaning of these dances.
Note: The cultural dance evening is only offered with a minimum of 8 guests.

This morning is free for you to spend on the island. After lunch, we’ll travel back to Atjoni, from where we’ll depart by bus to Paramaribo.
