Description

A 12,000 hectare nature park Brownsberg that is located approximately 130 km south of Paramaribo and west of the Van Blommestein reservoir.

On this day trip you will get to know a large part of the range of flora and fauna that the Surinamese pristine rainforest has to offer in just 1 day. Perhaps, to the loud roar of the monkeys, you will take walks to idyllic waterfalls and mountain streams and enjoy magnificent views over the tropical rainforest and the Brokopondo reservoir.

This park is highly regarded for its enormous Biodiversity. There are almost 1450 different species of plants and around 350 species of birds. He who listens carefully hears a monkey; If you pay close attention, you can even see one swinging!

In Suriname we have 8 different species of monkeys. Brownsberg is the “home” for all the 8 different type of monkeys!
At 500 meters altitude lies the Mazaroni plateau with a unique view over the mountains and the Van Blommenstein reservoir.

The nature park serves as a center for nature education and public awareness of nature conservation. The view of the mountains with its imposing foliage looks like a painting with many shades of green.

Day 1: Dayprogram

Early in the morning we will drive in approximately 2 – 2½ hours (130kilometers) on a partly asphalted and partly unpaved bauxite road to Brownsberg in a car/bus. Along the way you can enjoy the vegetation and you will be told about the savanna landscape and the authentic villages that are passed by. Arriving in the nature park, we venture a walk to the Leo and Irene falls. Here begins the vast Amazon region and you will find untouched jungle. After hiking to the first waterfall, you can enjoy and cool of in the Leo waterfall. Some continue to the Irene Falls. A strenuous run! A refreshing shower of the delicious spring water is definitely worth it! The guide will accompany you from Paramaribo to the nature park, which is located at an altitude of 500 m in the jungle area south of Paramaribo. The Brownsberg Nature Park has an area of 12,000 hectares and a range of bio-diversity. This tour is suitable for any day of the year.
Please note: from september - half november the waterfall is less spectacular because of the dry season at that time of the year.

Activities done on such a tour include hikes to the waterfalls through jungle trails, wildlife spotting, environmental information and bio-diversity. You have the option to take a shower under the falls. The Leo fall, Irene fall or Koemboe fall are the most visited places on the Brownsberg as well as the Mazaroni plateau for an excellent view of the tropical rainforest and reservoir. After a great experience you will arrive in Paramaribo at the end of the afternoon.

Steps:
First, we’ll provide our bank account details and share this with you.
Second, you can pay using SEPA bank transfers or SWIFT.
SEPA bank transfers usually take 0–2 working days to arrive in our account. SWIFT transfers take 2–5 working days.

Payment can be done via bank transfer or your card. We provide the bank account details in our invoice. The TransferWise app is not necessarily needed then, but if you already do have the WISE app, it’s easier to transfer money.
